Anil Sharma's movies, generally, have an undercurrent of emotions. In fact, his biggest victories have stressed on emotions [his directorial debut SHRADDHANJALI, GADAR and APNE in particular] and SINGH SAAB THE GREAT too maintains an iron grip on emotions and sentiments. Like GADAR, the emotional chord is between the couple [Sunny-Urvashi Rautela] and also between the brother-sister [Sunny-Anjali Abrol] this time. But what weighs the film down is the conflict with the antagonist. It's predictable and one feels that the issue of an honest citizen waging a war against the corrupt has been done to death. Sure, a few confrontations are fiery, especially the one when Sunny and Prakash Raj meet for the first time or the one when Sunny throws Prakash Raj in the fire, but the sting operation and the fight to finish towards the climax tend to get monotonous. Besides, the intimate scenes between Sunny and Urvashi look odd after a point.
SINGH SAAB THE GREAT overstays its welcome by a good 10/15 minutes. A crisp, concise edit would've only facilitated a solid punch. The soundtrack tilts heavily towards the Punjabi flavor, with the theme song staying on your lips. It's full of vigour and vivacity. 'Daaru Bandh Kal Se' [which has surprise cameos by Dharmendra and Bobby Deol] is hummable and gels well in the context of things. Dialogue are sure to be loved by the strata of audience they are targeted at [the masses]. In fact, the single screen audience in particular will relish and applaud the jibes and retorts for certain.
Singh Saab The Great is a typical Sunny Deol film and if you are a fan of the actor, you wouldn't mind watching it. If you want to watch a film with your family that isn't a remake, is full of action and has plenty of drama, this one is perfect.
As a director, I was very confident of the film and now people have also liked it. The film has great energy and the content is also good. Sunny Deol is a big star, but he has not had a solo release in a very long time; his last was The Hero: Love Story of a Spy. He has a big fan following. Singh Saab... is a sort of comeback film in the solo lead and his image is still very strong and fresh in the minds of the people, which is why he has been welcomed with great love and respect. As for Gori Tere..., I have not yet seen the film. So I cannot comment. What is the collection since its release on November 22Today is just the fourth day and I am happy with the way the film is faring at the box-office. In fact, it is getting better by the day. On the opening day, Singh Saab... collected around Rs. 6 crore, on the second day, it was about Rs.6-7 crore, and on Sunday it went up to around Rs. 10-12 crore. The collections for Monday are yet to come in. The film, which was made on a budget of Rs.30 crore, has garnered about Rs. 23 crore.Which territories is it doing wellWe had thought the film would do well in single screens, but surprisingly it is doing well in the multiplexes. Yesterday (Sunday) all the multiplexes were full. Also it is doing well in places like UP, Punjab, Bihar, Haryana, Rajasthan, West Bengal and in most of the cities. However, the response has not been too good in the South.if ( fe_check_is_mobile() == true ) {jQuery("googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1435909828675-0'); });").insertAfter(".runningtext p:eq(1)");} create_vuukle_platform('2e5a47ef-15f6-4eec-a685-65a6d0ed00d0', '1201618', 0, 'archive', ''Singh Saab The Great' box office collections better than 'Gori Tere Pyaar Mein', claims director - The Financial Express'); if( false == fe_check_is_mobile() ) {document.write('');} else {document.write('');}var addthis_config = {"data_track_addressbar":false};var addthis_share = { "passthrough": { "facebook": { "app_id": 1672404616366149, "redirect_uri": "https:\/\/www.financialexpress.com\/archive\/singh-saab-the-great-box-office-collections-better-than-gori-tere-pyaar-mein-claims-director\/1201618\/?fe_share=fb" }, "twitter": { "via": "FinancialXpress"} } };googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1467717901670-0'); });googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1467717901670-7'); });Tweets by FinancialXpress googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1467717901670-2'); });googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1467717901670-3'); });googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1467717901670-8'); });googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1467717901670-9'); }); The Express GroupThe Indian ExpressThe Financial ExpressLoksattaJansattaEximsRamnath Goenka Awards Privacy PolicyAdvertise with UsContact UsFeedback Copyright © 2023 The Indian Express [P] Ltd. Acting: Sunny Deol is great as Singh Saab. He performs the role of a sincere, upright collector with a twinkle of sincerity in his eyes and an extra loaded punch of honesty in his hands. The role is tailor made for Sunny Paaji and he does full justice to both the film and to the role. The main antagonist Bhoodev is played by none other than Prakash Raj. The fact that he is getting typecast, reduces the impact of his performance. Amrita Rao is okay and the romantic lead Urvashi Rautala is badly miscast.
By Shivani Mankermi: Bollywood frenzy awaits movie buffs in November. Spread over four Fridays of the month are six hyped releases, at least two of which are serious contenders for biggest hit of the year. Krrish 3 on November 1 and Ramleela on November 15 are already vying for a blockbuster tag while Rajjo , Gori Tere Pyaar Mein , Singh Saab The Great and Bullett Raja are also lined up next month.Multiple releases in consecutive weeks are common in this era of multiplexes. What makes November special is the sheer magnitude of money at stake. In all, approximately Rs 310 crore rides on the half a dozen releases."November looks like a huge month. Over Rs 300 crore are at stake and we expect good returns overall because all the films belong to varied genres," says Girish Wankhede, head of marketing, Cinemax.Click to read Small-budget Rajjo to take on biggie Ram LeelaA section of the trade, though, is wary. A similar situation happened in August when four films released back to back - Chennai Express, Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobara, Madras Cafe and Satyagraha . Chennai Express was the first release of the month and eventually emerged the biggest hit of all time. The film's overwhelming box- office response clearly dented prospects of the subsequent August releases. None of the other films managed to create an impact. I N November, Krrish 3, releasing during the Diwali weekend on the first Friday, should have that advantage.Realising the power of Hrithik Roshan's superhero franchise, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has decided to release Ramleela a full fortnight later."Krrish 3 has a huge advantage because of its release date, because it is a sequel to a major franchise and because it is a Hrithik Roshan film. The film could break records," adds Girish. The relatively smaller Rajjo clashes with Ramleela . However trade analyst Taran Adarsh opines: " A good film knows no competition or clash. Different genres can always coexist." ( Release dates are subject to change; all figures according to trade estimates)Rajjo , November 15Vishwas Patil directs Kangna Ranaut and Paras AroraClick to read First look: Meet Kangana in Rajjo The film explores the dying kotha culture of India. FINAL WORD: The box office numbers of Rajjo might get affected because it releases on the same day as Ramleela .Bullett Raja, November 29Tigmanshu Dhulia directs Saif Ali Khan & Sonakshi Sinha.Click to read Trailer out: Rustic Saif Ali Khan in and as Bullett RajaDhulia gives a masala edge to his gritty cinematic idiom with the film, which casts Saif as a gangster. The buzz: Saif's macho look and his first- time pairing with Sonakshi Sinha has created a buzz. Also, Dhulia has a loyal fan base.Final word: With Dhulia's name in the credits, the film should naturally find takers in the multiplexes, while the stars and the strong violence should help woo the single screens.Ramleela, November 15Sanjay Leela Bhansali directs Deepika Padukone and Ranveer SinghClick to read Watch: Deepika Padukone's garba moves in the new song of Ram LeelaRamleela is Bhansali's version of Romeo And Juliet . It narrates the romance of its protagonists Ram and Leela amidst violence. The buzz: The trademark Bhansali thrust on a majestic look has attracted attention, besides the hype over a rumoured affair between Deepika and Ranveer.Deepika's winning streak at the box- office lately should also works as a lucky charm.Final word: Bhansali hasn't had a hit since Black in 2005 and this film could be the 100- crore blockbuster that sets the record right.Krrish 3 November 1Rakesh Roshan directs Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Kangna Ranaut and Vivek OberoiClick to read Hrithik Roshan unveils Krrish 3 merchandiseThe film sees Hrithik's Krrish thwarting the evil designs of the villain Kaal, played by Vivek Oberoi. Kangna Ranaut is cast as an evil mutant. The buzz: Krrish 3 comes seven years after the last film and the hype is immense. Hrithik, too, returns after nearly 19 months, his last release being Agneepath in January 2012. However, the film's promotion so far has been low- key. Also, the brand of action Sunny seems to be hawking in the film has become commonplace now.Final word: Releasing the film in a crowded market could backfire if the makers don't promote it more aggressively.Gori Tere Pyaar Mein November 22Punit Malhotra directs Kareena Kapoor and Imran KhanClick to read Trailer watch: Gori Tere Pyaar MeinImran plays a city guy who forsakes his urban lifestyle to woo the rustic heroine played by Kareena. She is a patriot who wants to do something for her country. The buzz: Imran and Kareena's last film together, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu , saw an average run and the first look of Gori Tere Pyaar Mein has not created much impact. However the rom- com is a popular genre, which should be an advantage for the film.Final word: Hype so far has been low, and releasing a week after Ramleela and along with Singh Saab The Great could affect the film's box- office numbers.Other biggies this yearBesharam October 2Ranbir Kapoor's latest opened this week to good response at the box- office riding the hype around the budding superstar.
